Shellac Nails

Sometimes it's nice to treat yourself and have your nails done.

Last week with our Inbetweeners First Holy Communion approaching I treated myself and had a French manicure with Shellac.

Not only is it nice to have someone else do your nails but I had a whole hour to myself away from home.

As bad luck would have it I broke two of my nails a few days before I had them done and I was worried that they wouldn't look right but they turned out just fine thanks to my very lovely beautician.

I'm a huge fan of Shellac for special occasions because it lasts longer and with small children and lots of housework it resists chipping and cracking compared to just a normal polish.

I've had it done quite a few times since last year when I first discovered it but it has been on the go for a while. Normally I would get between two and three weeks from it so to me it's worth every cent.

So here is a picture of my nails taken yesterday four days after they were done and still looking good.

What do you think? Have you had Shellac nails done before or is it something you might try?

Dip Hem Top

I've seen loads of lovely lightweight knits in the shops this past few weeks and I'm loving this look at the minute for a host of reasons.

First of all it hides a multitude of sins for someone who has just had a baby, it's comfortable, effortless and great for lounging about in.

This is the type of piece that you can wear all year round - you can layer it up and have a snuggle in front of a winter fire or on it's own it's cool enough to wear for a summer picnic.

I picked this up in New Look last week in Pale Grey, it's also available in Mint Green, Pale Blue and Baby Pink.

It's just the thing to merge slouchy and chic.

Soap & Glory Hand Food

I go through lots of hand creams because I have very dry skin and I've tried so many different kinds - expensive ones, cheap ones, the lot.

Sometimes my hands can be so dry the skin actually cracks and stings.

This lovely hand cream from Soap & Glory is just fabulous and one of my new favourites. I don't know how long it's been on the go probably ages but I have only recently discovered it.

I love the name 'Hand Food' and the retro pink packaging.

The cream is nicely formulated and provides instant relief to dry skin leaving your hands feeling super soft and nourished.

It smells great and it doesn't leave your hands feeling sticky or greasy.

Available from Boots and priced for as little as £5 for 125ml you get a really decent hand moisturising cream that's not going to break the bank and last ages.

I'm looking forward to trying out some of their other products.

Have you tried this or any other Soap & Glory products that you can recommend?

Dark Navy Nail Polish

Over the weekend we had our annual rugby club dinner dance.

I treated myself to this gorgeous dark navy nail polish, Blue Satin by Chanel.

Normally I wouldn't go for something this dark especially at this time of year but I think it looks great on and it is still intact 3 days later which is a bonus.

Tell me what you think - would you go for it?

What My Teen Wore

This week's Fashion Spot is dedicated to my teen daughter. Last Friday she went to a disco which was organised by her local youth club.

She doesn't go to many disco's, just ones arranged by the youth club or school but I imagine in the next year or so that might change as there are regular teenage disco's here locally.

Thankfully she doesn't ask to go these yet, so we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

Such excitement getting ready, it reminded me of when I was that age, we were exactly the same - planning outfits, what way our hair was going to be, who was going to do our hair for us, who was going and wondering if there would be anyone 'interesting' there.

It's both a mixture of amazing and scary to see how fast she is growing up, it seems like no time since she was just a little girl.

She is quite mature for her age and we have a very close relationship which I am thankful for.

I think she looked stunning, even if that sounds totally biased I don't care.
